Clichés never stop.

Why do politicians, broadcasters and journalists use those awful, business clichés? I read all of these quotes of how President-elect Obama's appointees will "hit the ground running". Can't they just say that someone is eager or capable? It's the same as people telling me in the early 90's to "think outside the box". I was born outside of their fucking box!
Many phrases could still be valid and clear, or even humorous, but that aforementioned phrase is just terrible. Another dreadful, painfully over-used one is "waiting for the next shoe to drop".
